The Female Faculty Network of the University of Utrecht and the OBP Women’s Network of the University of Twente organize a lecture on ‘representation Women on TV: the emancipation is complete ‘

Timotheus Vermeulen, lecturer in cultural theory at the Radboud University Nijmegen, will during this lecture audience a critical look at the images of women on television.

Because why are adult women in ‘Girls’ girls called? And the men not boys? And why leave the women in ‘Desperate Housewives’ never the street and drive the men off and on?

With his critical gaze Vermeulen wonders how emancipated really is our society.

Vermeulen writes about art, film and television. His most recent book ‘Scenes form the Suburbs’ on the imagination of the everyday American city on film and television.
