Zeeland Suite 2014 Sunday on television – Broadcasting Zealand

Project

The Zeeland Suite 2014 is based on the jazz project Leo Cuypers from the seventies. The new version was written by pianist Jeroen van Vliet. The piece was early September performed six times at various locations in New Zealand, including the Village Square in Nisse and Nolle Head in Flushing.

Concerts

Later this year find another 25 concerts of the project at venues and festivals in the Netherlands. The broadcast on January 11, starts at 10:30 am at NPO 1. In spring the Zeeland Suite also appears on DVD and CD.

Open air

In 1977, the original Zealand Suite was performed in the open air by renowned jazz musicians, including Leo Cuypers, Willem Breuker and Marin Duynhoven . The combination of avant-garde jazz and the Zeeland landscape created a milestone in the Dutch jazz history.

Reviving

Director of Muziekpodium Zealand William Kniknie got the idea to revive the suite after more than 35 years. The new suite of Jeroen van Vliet is an eight piece of music. The first part is inspired by the original, the other parts are newly written.

Top musicians

The Zeeland Suite 2014 was performed by musicians from the Dutch jazz as Joris Posthumus (alto saxophone), Anton Goudsmit (guitar). Pianist Jeroen van Vliet received in December Buma Boy Edgar Prize for jazz and improvised music
