It is one of the most exciting programs at the public broadcaster this year Correspondents Dinner. In good American usage gives the prime minister the funniest speech, after which he himself is taken on the heel by a comedian. The Dutch model Mark Rutte take that challenge, his opponent in this one is Dolf Jansen.
Initiator Twan Huys expectations of the VVD prime minister. “When you first prime minister opens the Correspondents’ Dinner, then it must be the speech of your life.” Huys seduced Rutte in his program College Tour in 2011. Rutte took the challenge, but a short time later the government fell. Now he keeps his word.
The show tonight is exciting because something has never been done in the Netherlands. Indeed, minister Balkenende lashed out at satire on people who can defend difficult. That he was referring mainly to the royal family, but ministers had to pay for that time also a lot in programs like Tacks and Koefnoen.
The speeches tonight zulle far from spontaneous. Spin Doctors, counselors and administrators have fixed all have had their say about it. Hopefully it does not result in a polder which is to laugh at little more. But Mark Rutte will probably have some sense of humor, right?
