Japanese TV makers collaborate on technology for 8K TV – NU.nl

The Japanese companies will work together to provide better resistance against the South Korean TV giants LG and Samsung, which have won in recent years rapidly in market share.

Sony and Panasonic will try to get more Japanese companies to involve the alliance, reports business daily Nikkei Friday. Thus, the cost of developing 8K displays are to go down.

More and more 4K TVs will be in stores in the past year. Showing four times as many pixels as the now standard full HD resolution. 8K again four times as sharp as 4K.

The Japanese public broadcaster NHK will begin in 2018 with broadcasting in 8K. The broadcasting company is far ahead of the rest of the world. Even in 4K broadcasts are still very scarce. That resolution is already being used in some movies and TV shows from Netflix among others.

Panasonic and Sony to apply the 8K resolution not only in TVs. They also look at other devices that can operate at higher resolution, such as digital cameras
