Diversity of all the people who came into the picture in 2015 on the television networks of the VRT, are 38 percent women and 8.6 percent of new Flemings. There are well over 2014, reports public broadcaster.

Like every year, VRT allows to measure diversity on its television networks. The Diversity Monitor show that last year 8.6 percent of new Flemings and 38.0 percent of women were raised on the VRT television channels, compared with 7.6 percent and 35.3 percent in 2014.

public broadcaster did so better than the previous year in the number of women and new Flemings, and remove the targets from his management contract (at least 33 percent women and at least 5 percent of new Flemings) well, it says in the statement in 2015. “In the case of gender diversity, it even comes to the best figures since the start of the diversity measurement.”

The VRT has the ambition to 2020 in his television programs on an annual basis 40 percent of women and 7.5 percent of new Flemings to be addressed.

“Still too stereotypical”

But the VRT will also use the next few years, the quality of the imaging. “It’s not just about the number of women or new Flemings. It’s also about the way they are raised and in what context,” explains diversity coordinator Geertje The Ceuleneer out. “Now we find that women are heard even more than men when it comes to for example education and social affairs. New Flemish we see again especially when it comes to migration and refugees. That’s too stereotypical and we want the coming years, our employees raise awareness about it. “

with regard to people with disabilities puts the Flemish government no concrete targets on the VRT. But the public broadcaster wants to be representative in that respect. The presence of persons with a visual handicap on the VRT television networks fell slightly in 2015 compared with 2014: from 1.1 to 0.9 percent. By comparison, 10 to 15 percent of Flemish people living with disabilities, about 2 percent have a visible disability

The Diversity Monitor is a survey of the universities of Antwerp, Leuven and Amsterdam on behalf of the VRT. research department, where the Flemish offer of the VRT television networks has long studied one year (without external programs).

Friday March 18 VRT presented for the fourth year in a row of trophies from her own program makers dealing creatively with diversity, to put in the flowers.
