No more gay people on television – Gaysite.nl

04-03-2016 | The Chinese government this week published an eight-page document in which new guidelines represent current and future dramas. The new guidelines also contain provisions for homosexuality to be met from now on. It states inter alia, that television shows no longer contain storylines with homosexual relationships. This is because these “vulgar, immoral and unhealthy” would be.

Recently, the Chinese government has taken the first gay web series from the web and all fifteen episodes elsewhere, including on Youtube blocked. China’s Internet watchdog blocked the series ‘Addicted’ but gave no reason why until now. The popular series among young people is about a young gay couple who are having a difficult romance builds up a lot of resistance at school and also in the private situation. Meanwhile, the series seems to be the first victim of the new rules. Expected to be kept more films and series with a gay theme in the near future the Chinese television and the Chinese Internet.

Homosexuality is since 1997 no longer criminalized in China and in 2001 it was removed from the list mental disorders. But traditional attitudes in the conservative country still prevent full acceptance of LGBTs. According to a recent survey, a whopping 61 percent of the Chinese population homosexuality unacceptable. The Chinese government is by now open for more rights for homosexuals but only slowly be laws to protect gay men adopted. Chinese gay organizations have already announced to regret the decision of the government. They see the new guidelines as a step back in the emancipation of the LGBT community in China.
